Disgusting, Pathetic, Garbage: Just the Way Philly Likes It.

So the Eagles sign Michael Vick…I could probably end this post now. But I am going to continue and give my opinion as to why Philly can NEVER…EVER be forgiven in my eyes. Others may disagree but I could honestly care less. Let’s take two stances on this issue, the statistical reasons why this was a terrible idea and then the moral reasons why this was an even worse move.

Ok, so the Eagles sign Michael Vick who in his last NFL season hurled for over 2000 yards and trotted for another thousand and change with two touchdowns. Pretty impressive numbers by themselves, not to mention he averaged 8 yards a carry to boot. Now what if I told you they could have a quarterback that threw for 4000 yards last year and rushed for another 200 yards with two touchdowns also…is that something you might be interested in? Oh, wait…they already have that guy, his name is Donovan McNabb! Did Philly seem to forget that they already have an amazing QB??? I mean he was pretty much a top 5 QB last year despite his benching. Not to mention he had a 60% completion percentage. So Philly decides to cut his playing time to make room for a dude who may or may not have the speed he used to (those shower sessions in prison might have slowed him down some). Don’t forget that the Eagles have mucho tension in their locker room as well. This move can do nothing but add to that frustration and hinder their pursuit for a ring. I understand that they are questing for a ring like Aragorn and the boys from the Shire but this was a terrible move. Unless their motives are to use him like college teams use their speed QB’s but that tactic will run out of steam before it can even be effective. Any defensive coordinator who falls for that should be fired immediately.

On to the moral reasons why this was a terrible signing. Michael Vick was arrested for dog fighting charges but many people forget that he also TORTURED AND KILLED THESE ANIMALS…NOT JUST BET ON AND SPONSORED THEIR FIGHTS. In my eyes, and many others, this is a despicable and unforgivable act. You have to be a seriously disturbed and a fucked up individual to commit those acts on innocent and defenseless animals. Many people claim that he “served his time” or “paid his dues to society”…I’m going to have to respectfully disagree with them on that one. First off, to whom did he serve his time? Did the time he spent in prison un-torture those dogs? I was unaware that a couple of years in lock-up made someone innocent once again. “But other NFL players commit worse crimes and they still play, Jeremiah!” Yup, but does that make his case any more acceptable? No, HELL no. The NFL is messed up as is most professional sports, but I’m not concerned with that right now, I want to take my shots at Mike Vick. I hope, no I pray to whatever God will accept me, that his first play in the NFL someone rips his arms off at the shoulder and toss them to a pair of Pitt Bulls on the sidelines for a mid-Sunday lunch.

So once again Philly recaptures the trophy for scummiest city in the World…sorry Pyongyang…maybe next year.

  1. Many many many disagreements. First he served a year and a half for killing, fighting, betting on dogs. If a dog bites a person its put down no where cares. OK this was mallicious and bad but OJ probably killed his wife, Ray Lewis was probably guilty or double murder, Leonard Little and Donte Stallworth got DUI vehicular manslaughter. the list goes on but out of the 4 i listed a cobined 30 days in jail. How we caught to the point where dogs are more important than a human life? Come on now!

Second this man did 18 months in prison. This wasnt club fed. This was an actual prision where he got his rights stripped and wasnt allowed a football. He got no extra benefits rather then an fruit cup. And for people sayin jail is easy try prison getting maybe and hour of activity outside your cell where you are told what to do and how to do it. He went bankrupt, was butt ends of jokes, protested, and demonstrated against. He has served his time given was a model citizen and now we will see. Everyone messes u and everyone deserves a second chance.

Last why not sign him. He was a pro bowler hes 29years old. Hate to break it to you but he wasnt going to start on anyteam. He comes into an environment with good coaching and chemistry. Hes a back probably 3rd string until he learns the playbook. McNabb is going no where and is a good teacher for Vick to tell him pass first if it breaks down run like hell. Hes trade bait more than anything he get.
If you havent screwed up yet you will and youll want that second chance

  2. First off, I clearly addressed the whole “other players due terrible things” point. Try going back and actually reading what is written. Second, everyone does not deserve a second chance. For little things like smoking pot or getting caught drinking underage or even maybe grand theft auto people deserve a second chance. But when you start taking lives, when you begin to torture, when you effectively play God…you lose your right to a second chance. And no I am not saying a dog’s life is worth more than a humans, I feel maliciously killing either should be deserving of SERIOUS TIME AND/OR PUT HIS ASS TO SLEEP. Also, are you actually arguing that he is innocent in any way just because he had a rough time in prison? IT’S FUCKING PRISON. It’s not supposed to be a cakewalk.
Let’s say someone pointed a gun at your loved one (not comparable I know but just follow my train of thought for a moment). They fired that gun with an attempt to kill but missed terribly and hit them in the leg. You knew it was an attempt on their life, they knew they tried to kill, but the courts could not prove that it was attempted murder so the guy gets out in ten or so years. He served ten years in a Federal Penitentiary for a crime that truly, in your eyes and pretty much everyone else’s, deserved a life sentence and or the death penalty. In ten years is he innocent? In ten years has he “served his time”? In ten years can look him in the eyes and not want to kill him? It’s the same situation, just without the human or personal touch. But those were still innocent animals he tortured, and I know I’m a soft ass when it comes to hurting animals but that sick bastard needs to burn.
Finally, when did I ever say he was going to start? I said he would split time with an already great QB. All his presence does is take time away from McNabb and disturb that already shaky locker room, nothing else. Plus Vick is at a point in his career where he will be set in his ways and probably won’t even give a second look as to what McNabb offers. Teaching is totally and completely out of the question. I agree with you on that whole trade bait thing though. But at the same time, he obviously can’t be that much of trade bait seeing as how no one else beat Philly’s great offer of 1+ million.

  3. First I never said he was innocent but your attacking one man when people do worse things everyday then lie about it. He takes the blame, sure hes guilty but your the one playing god by judging him, blasting him. I didntwant to bring god into an argument but you did and all religions talk about forgiveness. It was never proved that he was the one who probed and tortured he in fact could have been but no facts saying it. it was in his house which he didnt live in. But he funded it, attended. People forget theses creatures are wild animals that we domesticated. If it was tigers or alligators people wouldnt give a shit. I dont in any way condone it but the fact people jump all over some one for a fuck up is hypocritical. Sure its disgusting but he deserves another chance.
To say he cant learn anything is assinine and proves you are making this up, athletes improve everyyear shit everyday. New coordinatrs and players come in and learn new plays, systems, and styles. Vick is 29 and and learn 3 completely different offense under different coordinators in 4 years. McNabb is what a QB should do go through your options your checkdown, then if it breaks down use your feet and thats what Vick can learn. Obviously he was taught and learned and under the mentor of Dungy he will hopefully help him change his live around. He isnt T.O. He has always been a great leader and locker room guy read any article prior to the Dog case again another bogus fact to slander him. He is trade bait hence the 1.5 mill he got and next year its an option worth roughly 5 mill. The Bengals offered him 2 years 2.5 mill so obviously teams are interested. Nobody wants the bad pub of him now but if he runs the wildcat effectively or even as a back up succeeds he will be worth some value. Tim Couch, Joey Harrington, hell Jeff George still gets try outs so come on.
He is not goint to take McNabbs playing time hahahahahha. Thats a joke the guys been out of the game for 2 years and you think he will cut into McNabbs playing time, lets get serious. Maybe 2 plays of wildcat come around week six a game. A a few trick plays probably where hes a slot receiver. Listen to the Andy Reid interviews hes got to battle for a back up job.
And as far as that scenario about the attempted murder. My stepdads twin brother was shot in cold blood by his neighbor who was a corrections officer. He got 3.5 years cuz he plead temp insanity. My stepdad holds no grudge and when I ask him why he said and i quote " He already hurt me once by taking my brother, why should I let him ruin my life by holding this anger forever. There comes a point where you forgive and let god be the final solution." Whether your religious or not you have to forgive otherwise you walk around angry and miserable because of someone else.

  4. On one hand, I can understand the ethical reasoning for not signing Vick.

On the other hand, I have to put myself in the shoes of the Eagles front office and realize that they've had a question mark at backup QB since Garcia bailed and Kolb proved to be less than adequate, and there's a former Pro Bowl QB waiting for a job as a backup on the cheap.

I don't necessarily blame them for it, but I find it a little disturbing that the blacklist on Barry Bonds has lasted longer than it did for a guy who tortured and killed dogs.

  5. Obviously you are not familiar with the phrase “playing God”. Playing God, is in no way an intro into a religious debate on the issue of forgiveness and the role it plays in issues such as this. Playing God is simply a term used to substitute the phrase “messing with living things for personal or other means”. I hope I can clear that up a bit. Also, if some dude was torturing alligators or tigers I’d be pretty pissed as well. A living thing is a living thing…you just don’t torture in my eyes.

“New coordinatrs and players come in and learn new plays, systems, and styles. Vick is 29 and learn 3 completely different offense under different coordinators in 4 years.”

Ok, we have two totally definitions of what learning is at the pro level. By learning, I mean things like all of a sudden Vick is going to change his style of play because McNabb sits him down and buys him an ice cream at a Phillies game. Of course players learn new systems and what have you, but I seriously, seriously doubt Vick is going to completely divert off his normal playing tendencies just because McNabb is next to him.

“He is not goint to take McNabbs playing time hahahahahha. Thats a joke the guys been out of the game for 2 years and you think he will cut into McNabbs playing time, lets get serious. Maybe 2 plays of wildcat come around week six a game.”

This quote pretty much solidifies my argument. If he isn’t going to see playing time then why even pick him up in the first place? I guess you could so no one else gets him but that really isn’t all that logical. In my opinion you don’t sign a guy like Vick just to have him scout for McNabb, you bring him in to run a college style offense. Plus, if Vick never sees the field, as you yourself claimed, then his effectiveness at being trade bait is almost gone. Why would a team risk trading away decent players for a guy who hasn’t seen a snap in two years…?

Your stepdad must have extreme willpower then and I applaud that sort of thing. It’s not me though. Maybe here is better way to look at it; forgive but never EVER forget. It seems like everyone has forgotten what Vick did or the seriousness of his crimes. Unfortunately I still cannot forgive the guy for what he did.

“I dont in any way condone it but the fact people jump all over some one for a fuck up is hypocritical.”

I’m not sure as to what your definition of a “fuck up” is, but mine is not hosting a dog fighting ring, torturing dogs, and then killing them for not performing…I would say that is a little bit more than just an “oops, my bad.”

  6. You sign him the same reason you sign a back up QB. If your starter goes down you have a back up hence the term. You want me to further break it down. If your next point is back ups dont make millions i suggest look around the league. Plus Vick is a former pro bowler why not take a flyer and see what he can do. McNabb who has a a history of injuries could force Vick into action but to say Vick will take time is an obvious lack of knowledge. Vick might get time by an injury or like a stated the wildcat or maybe as a slot receiver but you dont pay Donovan more than Vick to be have Donovan back up.
By fuck up he fucked up he served his time he hasnt hid or denyed anything. He said hes disgusted by his actions. His first offense and everyone one derserves a second chance. You and PETA can hold hands a sing Kumbahya and try and hold him out of football but the fact of the matter is hes back with his second chance

  7. And we are young and still have time to fuck up. Not saying we all host dog rings but maybe vehicular manslaughter idk anything could happen you brought up the point a loved one is killed then you "play" god and kill him for revenge and get life because of lack of a lawyer. Then what, you will want your second or even third or fourth chance. People make mistakes some bigger than others but the only way to see character is by how they emerge through the trouble

  8. And as far as Mike Vick learning he will. The word your looking for is his tendencies. Scramble when shit hits the fan. Randall Cunningham was that type of player earlier in his career then change to a more pocket passer than run. So by saying Vick cant change is an uninformed assuption
