Nothing but time has passed as his so called fifteen minutes of fame began to dim. It wsa the jab heard round the world. The pink haired guy Seth Petruzzeli TKO'd Kimbo and his legend.
We thought he dissappeared and went back to whatever he did before, sell rocks, fight at BBQs, be a body guard on pornsites. Turns out he never gave up on his dream. Training underBas Rutten this team is nothing but a benefit. He started his MMA career in the limelight and now he reappears there but on a reality show. He is on this season of The Ultimate Fighter.
Now he got dropped by Seth but he spent months training for a fight vs Ken Shamrock. Training submission defense and de-humanizing his opponent. The day of the fight he is told Shamrock wont be able to fight your fighting Petrezzeli, a majority unknown fighter once in the UFC who was hungry and nothing to lose.

im not even sure if Kimbo is training with Bas anymore, There is a video of Bas explaining this, he said that Kimbo changed after a few fights, and after that loss to petrezzeli, he didnt come and train anymore, seemed to maybe fall back into old habits.. but being on the ultimate fighter, it seems that Kimbo needs the money but who knows the show might show him in a different light.. either way hes in the UFC regardless, even if Dana says he has to "fight his way on to the show" we all know all the fighters get to fight at the end in the prelims and thats when it will matter for him, thats if he doesnt win the whole show.
ReplyDeleteIs anyone really supprised about his loss to Petttruzelli? Looking at his opponents records Petruzelli was the first fighter without alot of recent losses.
ReplyDeleteCantrell(Kimbo's debut fight)
Record before slice fight 10-10
- lost four staight before his loss to Slice all in the first round 2 by KO(1:33)(0:05), 1 by TKO (0:26), and 1 by submission (1:06).
Tank Abbot (2nd fight) -
Record b4 slice 9-13
should i even explain?
he lost 3 straight in the first round and 7 of his last 8 before slice. 2 by KO, 3 by TKO
James Thomson (3rd) -
record before slice 14-8
lost 6 of his last 8 before fighting slice. Of his six losses only one of them went past the first round (one was a 10 min round). 4 of those losses by KO (2:24) (0:10) (0:43) (8:25). 1 submission (1st round the time isnt on wikipedia). 1 TKO (3rd round also not given).
Seth Petruzelli
b4 slice 9-4
hasnt been knocked out in any of his fights 3 sub losses, 1 dec loss
My point is Slice lost his only fight against an opponent who was halfway decent and that all his previous fights were against people who he could stop with only power
but this man had about ten months of training before his debut. Thats how you go through MMA unless your Lesnar you beat the scrubs to move up to cans then good then elite. He fought in backyards which doesnt give you any octagon experience aside from a hard overhand right. With his time he has been training. Not sure still with Rutten but this man is determined.
ReplyDeleteIm not saying Kimbo is the best fighter or even a ranked top heavyweighht but def a favorite to win the Ultimate fighter. If he fights Petruzelli 99 more times Kimbo wins via KO or TKO. It was a bit of a fluke and had Kimbo trained to fight him he would have won. Seth was 40 lbs lighter and it was element of surprise. Like I said Kimbo trained and gameplanned for Shamrock and got Mr. Pink Hair
Also I think he threw the fight. He was a heavy favorite, EliteXC was going down, and a soft jab dropped him. He bet on Seth took the money and dissappeared
Cantrell has fought guys like Irvin, Buentello, Roy Nelson, and Brad Imes. He is a guy like Tank that you first fight. And use sherdog.com not wiki just cuz sherdog gives you everything. If any sherdog exec reads this ill advertise you site for free contact me
ReplyDeleteKimbo shouldn't have been a favorite vs. Petruzelli. He agreed before the fight to keep it standing up because Kimbo would have been screwed on the ground, then accidentally let it slip out on a talk radio show shortly after the fight.
ReplyDeleteHe isn't well rounded at all because he's relatively new to MMA, but then he fights Thompson who is known for his glass jaw and gets a bunch of good shots in but doesn't knock him out so even his striking isn't as good as it was hyped up to be
I could agree that Kimbo is a favorite to win TUF but if he is it's only because it's set up for him. They changed a rule so that Kimbo doesnt have to fight early to stay around and possibly get eliminated. I hope he proves me wrong though it would be great for the sport
